2/17 Saturn Uranus Square - My opinion on what this could mean for the tech industry, the financial system, and how you may be impacted based on your chart

Disclaimer: This is just my own interpretation as someone who enjoys studying astrology. I don’t claim to be right. I just like making predictions about the future because it’s fun. 😊

First, let’s talk about why this event is significant.

The last times a square between Saturn and Uranus occurred were July 17, 1999, November 14, 1999, and May 13, 2000. Many astrologers link this to the dot com bubble crash in 2000. Three of these squares happen this year on February 17, June 14, and December 24.

I find it interesting that in both of these cases, there are three squares that happen within the course of a year. Three represents a triad, with a beginning, middle, and end, so it’s likely that the event on February 17 is what “gets the ball rolling” and we won’t realize what the reason for this change is until the end of the year.

Let’s go back to the dot com bubble for a second. In 1999, we had Saturn (planet of rules, structure, discipline, boundaries, status quo) transiting Taurus (ruler of the 2nd house of material wealth, finances, work, income) square up with Uranus (planet of rebellion, eccentricity, sudden and unpredictable events, a “shit-stirrer”) who was transiting Aquarius (ruler of the 11th house of technology and humanitarianism). When there is a square between planets, it can feel like the planets are butting heads. It can feel harsh, like the sharp corners of a square. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. It just means that both planets are a little stubborn at this time and there is some tension from both of them trying to push forward their own agenda.

What we saw with the dot com bubble was that Uranus (the “shit-stirrer”) was pushing forward the agenda of Aquarius (technological innovation), by creating a strong disturbance in the house of Taurus (money, security, and value systems) which, under the influence of Saturn, perhaps became more inflexible. Looking back at the technology companies that went bankrupt in 2000, it’s clear that they were not the type of companies that were built to handle the needs of the world today, so we can think of the crash as being driven by Aquarius, who provided a catalyst for newer and better technological inventions to take over.

This year, interestingly enough, we have the opposite scenario. We have a Saturn-Aquarius and Uranus-Taurus square. Saturn transiting Aquarius means that the rule-loving Saturn has the ability to channel its strong sense of authority, disciplinary tendencies, and work ethic into the house of Aquarius, which is all about being of service to the collective while at the same time championing individual freedom. This means that as long as Saturn is in Aquarius, there will be a lot of work around deconstructing systems that are not serving humanity. There will be a lot of tension between the energy of rigidity and and the energy of freedom, and we may be challenged to find a way to combine these energies in a synergistic way, like finding freedom within constraint. On the flip side, Uranus will be channeling its radicalism into the house of Taurus, which, as you might have guessed, is closely tied to our financial system. Uranus is in Taurus until 2025 and Saturn is in Aquarius until 2023. That means, under normal circumstances, we should expect these changes to occur gradually.

Unless, of course, there is some kind of wildcard thrown into the mix, such as the trinity of Saturn-Uranus squares that’s occurring this year.

What happens when these planets square? By applying the same framework used to analyze the dot com bubble, it is likely that there will be some massive disturbances in our technology industry and our social structures with the end goal of dramatically changing the way we work and earn income. There may be more unionization. We may get some clarity on the issue of whether gig economy workers should be classified as employees or independent contractors. The way we earn money may change. Our attitudes towards money may change. I’ve said before that money has no intrinsic value. This is especially relevant now as there’s so much volatility in the market that no matter where you put your money, there’s a chance that you could get screwed over. Not even cash is safe because of inflation.

A lot of times, we assume that things are the way they are for a reason and don’t think to question it. Taurus rules our priorities, values, and daily routines. For example, most of us are used to the 9-5 paradigm of working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. The 40 hour work week is a system that was developed in the industrial age that makes no sense in the information age. However, working 40 hours a week seems to be an indication of “good work life balance”. With Taurus under the influence of Uranus and being at odds with Saturn, I would expect there to be a lot of questioning of the status quo around work. I think it’s highly likely that the 40 hour work week goes away by the end of this year.

Another aspect of Aquarius is humanitarianism. We may see big social changes involving the redistribution of wealth, which is what the Age of Aquarius is all about. Taurus is incredibly smart and resourceful. She (I use the gender pronoun “she” because she is ruled by Venus) knows that in our society, distribution of wealth is really a distribution of power. She is here to change the way we think about wealth, utilize wealth, and create more wealth for ourselves. This may be a good time to reflect on your own beliefs regarding wealth. I’m not saying that there will be another bubble burst, although a lot of other people on r/wallstreetbets are. The dot com bubble was driven by Aquarius, and this “bubble” is driven by Taurus. The goal of Aquarius was to create more technological innovation. The goal of Taurus is to manifest the spiritual in the material. I believe that by the end of the year, we will see a money system that is more in alignment with the spiritual credit system.

That’s the gist how this event may impact us as a collective. How this transit may impact you at an individual level is actually super easy and super fun to calculate. To know this, you must know your rising sign (also known as your Ascendant). This requires you to know your birth time. The Rising Sign is your 1st house. There are 12 houses. You want to know which house of yours Saturn is transiting, so you would count forward from your rising sign until you get to the sign of Aquarius. For example, my rising sign is Virgo, so Aquarius is my 6th house. You can do the same for Uranus and Taurus. For myself, Taurus is my 9th house.

To make sense of this, use the following phrase and replace the brackets with the information relevant for your house placement (you can use the chart below for reference):

I expect a lot of changes in [house for Aquarius] with the end goal of [house for Taurus].

For myself, that means lots of changes in the way I work and be of service to the world with the end goal of higher learning and spiritual expansion. If that exercise doesn’t make sense, it’s okay. Sometimes astrology can be like speaking another language. I hope this was a helpful and fun exercise to do. One of the reasons I love astrology is because of how mathematical it is. Keep in mind that these are just tools. They have no value in themselves. Their value is actualized only after they have been graced by the presence of consciousness. A skilled alchemist knows how to combine elements in a synergistic manner to fulfill their purpose. Take from this blog post what resonates with you and leave what doesn’t. After all, you are the alchemist, and you are the one creating the magic.
